Portugal National Events Workshop "Responsible Development of Nanotechnology", 2015_05_18, Oeiras, Portugal

ISQ and PToNANO are organizing a workshop on the “Responsible Development of nanotechnology”, to be held on the 18th May at ISQ (Oeiras) in Portugal. In this workshop, whose focus is in the need and importance of a responsible development of nanotechnology in order to maximize its potential in economy and society, European experts coming from the European Commission, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) and NANoREG project are the main speakers.

This is the 2nd workshop organized by PToNANO in the frame of its participation on NANOREG and although participation is expected to come from all stakeholders involved in nanotechnology, it is expected a strong industrial participation due to the content of the workshop’s program which will debate key issues related to innovation, development and exploitation of nanotechnology and nanomaterials.

1st National Meeting “Nanotechnology: Legislate to Compete”, 2014_04_03, Caparica, Portugal

PToNANO hosted the 1st National Meeting “Nanotechnology: Legislate to Compete” at the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ), Portugal. The meeting aimed at presenting the NANoREG’s objectives and the activities being developed in Portugal under the NANoREG project. It was also intended to foster the dialogue and collaboration between the various national bodies involved in the innovation and decision-making in the field of nanotechnology, promoting an open debate on responsible development of nanosciences, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials and on their impact in the economic and social progress

The meeting gathered more than one hundred participants, from different institutions, public and private, of varied sectors of activity and from different part of the country. As an example are referred the regulators, industry associations, consumer associations, government agencies, health authorities, technological research centers, universities and public and private institutions.

The Meeting highlighted the relevance and urgency of implementing legislation / regulation towards a responsible and sustainable development of nanosciences, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials as catalysts of economic and social progress of our country.
